COUNCILLORS are being asked to approve extensive restoration work to a Grade 2 Listed former bank building in Warrington town centre.

The bank building in Buttermarket Street is currently used for 10 one-bedroom flats for vulnerable adults.
Applicants Civitas Investment Management want to carry out renovation work to both the interior and exterior of the building and planning officers are recommending the proposals be approved.
They say the work is necessary to prevent further damage to a Listed building which is already deteriorating and also to provide improve accommodation for the occupants.
The building dates from at least the 1850s and may date from as early as 1829-31.

Originally a bank, it was later converted to offices before again being converted to flats.
Deterioration of the building’s exterior has resulted in water ingress which has, in turn, damaged the interior of the building. Repairs are necessary to prevent further damage.
The site is directly opposite St Mary’s RC Church, which is also Grade 2 Listed.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee will consider the proposals at their next meeting.
