WARRINGTON South MP Andy Carter has given his backing to Peel NRE’s redevelopment plans for the former Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station site near Penketh.
He desctibed it as “a great brownfield development opportunity for Warrington” during a tour of the site.
Last month it was announced that Peel NRE, part of regeneration business Peel L&P acquired Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station from energy company SSE Thermal.
Since the acquisition, Peel NRE has been engaging with residents and key stakeholders about what this means for the future of the site and welcomed the opportunity to organise a site visit for the local Member of Parliament.
Mr Carter has been a supporter of the regeneration and reuse of the site since his election to parliament and lobbied for its inclusion in the 2021 version of the Warrington Local Plan as a key brownfield development opportunity.
The site is currently proposed for development of around 250-acres for employment use and approximately 1750 sustainable new homes.
Peel NRE is at the early stage of developing its plans, but these will include the demolition of the former energy facility and restoration of ash lagoons to make way for the new developments for industrial use, creating high quality jobs and the creation of a new sustainable neighborhood to address local housing needs.
Plans will also create extensive new parkland, paths, and wildlife areas to enhance and restore some of local environment that has been home to the coal fired power station and will be delivered in partnership with Peel L&P’s homebuilder Northstone and specialist UK logistics development business PLP.
