A community bus service run by volunteers for transporting people to hospital has suffered a further setback after fuel was stolen from a vehicle, damaging the tank.
The incident took place sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, earlier this week.
Local Cllr Cathy Mitchell, who is a founder and Trustee of the Burtonwood & Winwick community bus service said: “The bus had to be taken out of service when it was needed for hospital work. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers who work tirelessly we managed to keep this service going despite setbacks like this.”
The thieves stole fuel worth around £100 and caused damage that hasn’t been billed for yet.
The bus is one of three run by volunteers, with one already off the road for repairs. The damage was caused as a large hole was made in the fuel tank.
Cllr. Mitchell added: “We pay a lot for repairs to start with as our buses are old, so this is just another thing we’ve had to deal with. The bus had to be taken out of service when it was needed for hospital work.”
The theft has been reported to police.
