UPDATED: THe funeral of well-known local photographer Eddie Fuller will take place at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 8 at Woolston C of E church, followed by cremation at Walton Lea Crematorium at 1:20 pm.
Eddie, who captured some of the town’s biggest occasions on camera in a career spanning many years, has sadly died after a short illness, aged 88.
Eddie, who was originally from a mining community in County Durham, followed his father and four brothers into the industry, before turning his attention to photography, with a newspaper career spanning four decades.
He became club photographer with Stoke City, where he captured many images of England goalkeeping legend Gordon Banks before moving to Woolston, Warrington, where he became photographic manager on the local newspaper, becoming a well-known face across the town.
He was a popular character at Warrington Rugby League Club, where he carried on taking pictures of his beloved Wire well beyond retirement, even featuring on the club pre-season picture in 2008 to mark his retirement. He was supported throughout by his devoted wife Doris, who was always watching from the sidelines.
An exhibition of his photographic work of The Wire took pride of place in the gallery at Warrington Museum in 1993.
He also worked with local journalist Gary Slater publishing books covering the history of the Wire. He was also a keen member of Warrington Speakers Club for many years.
He leaves his wife of more than 60 years Doris, sons Martin and Nigel, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Throughout the majority of my journalistic career, until his retirement, Eddie was nearly always there at every event I covered. Despite working in “opposition” never a cross word was said and words of advice and encouragement were freely given.
He is certainly someone I will never forget and will remember with fondness.
It was an absolute honour to be invited to his Diamond wedding celebrations as well as being tasked with helping take photographs at his son, Nigel’s wedding.

I knew Eddie during my mayoral years. He was a great character and cheeky to boot. He took lots of photos of me and presented me with a famed set which is hung in my conservatory. In addition a photo album. He alway did this for Mayors and the Wire.
This was all despite the best efforts to stop him by the Mayoral office.
I always made sure he would know what was going on so that he could gatecrash
