Planners give go-ahead for changes to historic Lymm Hall

PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead for a number of alterations to The Shippon at historic Lymm Hall.

The proposed changes are said to have a beneficial impact on the setting of the Grade 2* Listed Lymm Hall and a negligible impact on the Lymm Village Conservation Area
They involve removing a conservatory built in 1995 and replacing it with a more appropriate orangery.

Although the hall and some other old buildings are Listed, the Shippon is unlisted. It was built sometime between 1837 and 1875, and is believed to have been built by the family of William Battersby, who owned the Hall around that time.
It was originally intended for part residential and part service use.
In addition to replacing the existing conservatory, there are other alterations proposed, including an improved front porch and the removal of timber-clad roof dormers.
A number of internal improvements are also proposed.
Lymm Hall dates from the 11th century but the building has undergone many changes and alterations over the years.
