VIDEO: WHILE no official Remembrance Sunday parades took place in Warrington due to the national lockdown the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Maureen Creaghan, honoured the fallen by laying a wreath at the town’s Cenotaph while small gatherings took place in local communities.
A planned private ceremony and wreath-laying at St Elphin’s Parish Church – for a small number of civic leaders, war veterans and armed forces members was cancelled for safety reasons but around 200 people attended a service at Bridgefoot cenotaph, while a small outdoor service also took place at Appleton Thorn and other churches around the town.
Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Maureen Creaghan, said: “While the national lockdown means we cannot mark Remembrance Sunday in the same way, it’s important that we continue to honour all those who have been injured or lost their lives fighting for their country.”
The Mayor (pictured below) is also President of Warrington Male Voice Choir, who played a virtual tribute to honour the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families, through a special Remembrance performance on YouTube. (see below)

They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, not the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them ❤️ pic.twitter.com/2mrLxftKPu— Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation (@WWRLFoundation) November 8, 2020

From last year’s #RemembranceSunday services at Warrington Cenotaph and Birchwood war memorial.
This year we will be marking the day very differently but I will be thinking of all those who have served, including my grandfather Ted who would have been 100 years old this year. pic.twitter.com/gbPcMFHoii

This morning I laid a wreath at the Cenotaph at Bridgefoot, #Warrington.
I pay tribute to all those brave men and women that have fought for our freedom over the years, as well as those that continue to keep us safe all across the world.

Downscaled but beautiful service at Warrington Cenotaph this morning. It means so much as the daughter of 2 Ex Royal Signals to lay a wreath in honour of our glorious dead. We will remember them. @MrAndy_Carter @Dave_ICC pic.twitter.com/01wIi48mLC

Good on you Cllr.Lest we forget.I was there.I thought I would be alone.I thank other veterans for their support.We would do it again.It’s called respect. The Police not only got down on their knees to support the BLM march,they escorted them through town.An illegal March. We all socially distanced,except for the Police
Looks like the police also attend?
