Warrington’s COVID-19 hot spots revealed as 59 new cases confirmed

AS the UK recorded the highest ever daily number of new COVID-19 cases there were 59 cases reported in Warrington, with Penketh and Lymm showing the largest number of infections in the latest updates from Public Health England.

Although the 6,634 new cases across the country is a new record, far fewer people were being tested in May, when health experts suggested the peak of the first wave was likely to have been in excess of 100,000 a day. Even now it is suggested only a around a third of cases are being picked up by the testing system. Research by the Imperial College in London, suggests two thirds of cases may be asymptomatic, meaning the true number of infections could be 18,000 a day.
The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in Warrington since March is now 2131 (2,072) 1,014.7 (986.6) per 100,000 population. The seven day average as of Sept 17 was 38.4. The total number of confirmed deaths remains 155, the most recent being at Warrington Hospital last Saturday.
