RESIDENTS are being urged to take part in a survey to help Great Sankey Parish Council take control of the local railway station with a view to helping strengthen the community.
A consultation is being launched as the council plans to take control of the rail station from the rail operator through a community asset transfer and councillors say they want residents to be heard and invested in future plans.
“This is an opportunity to shape an important part of our community,” explains North Ward councillor Dan Price. “Lots of ideas have been put forward on what we should do with the station from creating a farmers market and cafes and restaurants to building a community hub. We want to know what local people want to see in Great Sankey.”
The survey also is asking residents for their views on wider improvements to their community. Councillor Price said the Parish Council was keen to understand local priorities on a range of possible interventions from an increase in cycle lanes, more pavement planting and new playground facilities, for example.
“Many people have become more attached to their local community during lockdown, volunteering is up and we know there’s a strong interest in improving Great Sankey,” he said. “The future is local and we want to work with residents to make sure we’re introducing changes that fulfil their aspirations for our area.”

Councillor Price, first I’ve heard from him for manny many months, yet we pay him to do 22 hours work every week for us. Can we have a record of your achievements and objectives over the past 18 months Cllr Price, strange that we’ve heard nothing for ages but with elections a few months away you’ve re-emerged?
I’d suggest having more than a couple of trains per day call at the station.
