A Virtual leaving party was held for Margaret Tye as she stepped down as Chair of the Warrington Arts Council, a role that she has enjoyed for fifty years, since the Arts Council was first created.
Margaret, who is also very active in the Soroptimists, was a librarian at the University of Chester Campus on Fearnhead Lane and used to run the Lewis Caroll Society, which was why she was offered the role when the Warrington Arts Council was formed.
The Zoom Meeting of the Arts Council Members was intentionally held in the style of a tea party reminiscent of the one in Alice Through The Looking Glass.
Members even raised funds between themselves for a local artist, Joely Dean, to produce a fantastic painting of the famous Tea Party with a Warrington and Arts twist to it (pictured next to Margaret above).
Plenty of stories were told by all including one where Margaret described one of the low points, early in the life of the Arts Council, where members had to hold the meeting in one of the member’s cars! Thankfully things have changed since then and the Arts Council is still here, promoting the town’s arts and culture scene and acting as a co-ordinating and liaising body for local voluntary organisations and anyone involved or interested in the cultural life of the town.
