Zoom Zumba classes for adults with Autism and learning disabilities

THANKS to a group of women participating in a 2.6 charity challenge by running a Marathon in a Month, local charity Creating Adventures is now able to offer online Zumba sessions for adults with additional learning needs.

Last November Maeri Howard met Kirsty James at the LinkedIn Local Warrington event which was focused on mental health. Maeri challenged Kirsty to start running to improve her self-care. Kirsty then recruited Roz Healey, Jenny Allcock and Suzanne Griffiths to start a team ‘Net Run’ for the weekly Warrington Park Run events.
All are local business women so networking is in their blood. Net Run is a combination of networking, accountability, support and motivation to keep each other going!
When the Park Run was temporarily postponed due to the Coronavirus, the women decided that they would continue their running individually and virtually with regular social media posts to continue the support for each other.
One of the group members, Jenny Allcock, is also Founder of local charity Creating Adventures, a charity set up to support adults with autism and learning disabilities to lead a fulfilled life, with access to a variety of opportunities and activities in the community. One of the projects Jenny was achieving funding for was the Zoom Zumba as she was fully aware that many of the adults they support are struggling with the current pandemic situation, which has put a stop to the outings and activities they usually have access to.
Jenny knew from the success of the Zumba class in 2019 at their Sports & Wellbeing Festival that Zumba would be welcomed by all and Zoom video was a way of delivering this activity to the adults across Warrington to support them during this difficult time.

The five ladies completed the #TwoPointSixChallenge #NetRunRelay ‘Marathon in a Month’ during the hot early summer and raised a magnificent total of £688.00 which will cover the costs of 22 Zoom Zumba sessions over the course of 11 weeks. They also have funding from United Way and Co-op Local Causes to continue beyond this point either online or in a local community centre.
Jenny would like to thank the Net Run ladies for their determination and grit during this difficult time. It would have been so easy to sit back but the ladies knew how running made them feel and wanted the community who Creating Adventures support to feel that same post-workout feeling of achievement and fulfilment.
Mandi from M J Fitness in Warrington will be leading the sessions. Adults with Autism and learning disabilities are invited to join this online class and need to register their details with Jenny Allcock on 01925 594460 or email [email protected]

The Net Runners say thanks for the donations
