A LYMM couple who have helped raise over £10,000 for charity through the National Garden Scheme (NGS) have been selected for a virtual tour of their stunning garden.
The garden at Statham Avenue, Lymm has evolved over the last 30 years under the care of the current owners Mike and Gail Porter.
NGS supports Macmillan, Marie Curie and other nursing support charities and last year alone the garden raised over £3,200.
Unfortunately due to lockdown the garden can not open to the public this year but it has now been selected for a virtual tour on the NGS website.
Gail said: “Sadly this year the NGS gardens are currently unable to open and we will not be opening as usual at the end of May, although the garden looks wonderful.
“We have created a video of our garden and this has been selected from a high number of entries for a virtual garden tour. The aim is to promote NGS, hopefully raise some money for the nursing charities, but whether people donate or not it’s wonderfully topical and very restful.”
Managing the rising slope has been addressed using several levelled beds with mixed planting and enticing seating areas.
Colourful open sunny beds contrast with shady secret places. A wide variety of bulbs in spring continue through the summer, including many tree lilies. Warm evenings are rewarded with fragrance from the numerous roses and shrubs.
There’s a stylish working greenhouse and several interesting outhouses including the ‘Egg House’.
Walk to the top of the garden and explore ‘Thomas’s Steps’ below the Bridgewater towpath. before sitting and enjoying the view down over the lawn and terraces.
This is a garden you may not want to leave!

The garden looks great! I am now also engaged in landscaping the territory. The first step is to start cleaning, walk carefully through your yard, clearing everything from the leaves you missed in the fall to the leaves and debris that blew under the bushes in the winter.
