Labour candidate will campaign for bridge tolls to be scrapped

WARRINGTON South Parliamentary candidate Faisal Rashid says Labour is the only party to pledge to review the Mersey Gateway tolls.
If elected, he will campaign for them to be scrapped, he says.
Labour have made a manifesto commitment to review all tolled road crossings when in government.
It’s an issue close to the former Warrington councillor’s heart as he campaigned for years for an additional road crossing of the Mersey – only to find it was to be tolled.
Prior to the last general election, the previous government made a promise to lift the tolls – but this never happened.
Mr Rashid said: “If the Mersey Gateway was across the River Thames in London, it would have been free from the very start.
It is good news that the Labour Party manifesto includes a commitment to review tolls on all UK roads.
“I firmly believe that the tolls on the Mersey Gateway should be scrapped. I will be pressing the incoming Labour Government to remove these tolls as a matter of urgency.”
