UPDATED: CHAOTIC traffic conditions were experienced in Warrington town centre today as a result of the Chester Road swing bridge being stuck in the “open” position requiring repair works.
This meant the bridge was”closed” to road traffic for a lengthy period this morning while Peel Ports engineers struggled to get to the scene and again this afternon while engineering works were carried out.
This resulted in lengthy delays on the A5060, but also elsewhere across the town centre.
There have been an ongoing problems with the swing bridges at Latchford, Stockton Heath and Chester Road sticking due to mechanical problems.
Due to further engineering works, the swing bridge A5060 Chester Road is closed to traffic. Expect delays on surrounding roads.

Or as it known in the engineering world. lack of maintenance.
Peel Holdings are only interested in how much proffit they can make for the least effort. They don’t give a sh one t about their lack of maintenance on these bridges has on the travelling public. Surely their must be some way that they can be held to account, leagle action perhaps ? I doubt they would get away with it in the South of England.

6.45pm tonight the Chester Road Bridge was out of action again and traffic was backing up all the way up Walton Drag and every other approach. Peel Holdings engineers were there in their bright orange high viz and looked to be manually trying to get it back into to position. I bet they are as sick of having to go out to try and sort as we all are about gridlocked traffic everytime it sticks down.
PEEL HOLDINGS YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!! And to some extent so should WARRINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL FOR NOT FORCING PEELS TO MAINTAIN THEIR BRIDGES TO A GOOD STANDARD OF REPAIR!!
If anyone takes the time to look through Hansard ( Parlimentary acts) you will find that there is nothing Warrington Borough Council can do to stop Peel. The act states that the swing bridges can swing up to six times per hour as long as the total time swung does not exceed 60 minutes ( one hour). This was passed by Parliament aft er Baron de Trafford, then owner of Trafford Park and a very powerful man in his day took the then Manchester Ship Canal Company to task over Trafford swing bridge
They certainly can do something. They can very publicly side with Warrington residents and call them out for the money grubbing shysters they are. They can kick up a stink, which would probably mean getting rid of Steven Broomhead, so there are two benefits.
