Lymm Runners host successful Trail Race and raise over £500 for charity

RUNNERS of all ages gathered at Lymm High School playing fields to take part in the seventh annual Festival Trail Races, organised by Lymm Runners.

It was a happy family occasion, helped by the ideal weather conditions and some great new features.

These included a striking new Finish Arch, very generously funded by a grant from the Trail Running Association, performances by the Lymm POP Choir to get us in the mood and a fun group warm-up for all 3 races by Scott Pearson of Fast Fit Strong. The chosen Charity this year was Mind and over £500.00 was raised through donations and the cake raffle.

Club Co-Chair Lynn Wheeler said: ‘’It’s fantastic to see so many runners of all abilities taking part – and the event has a friendly community-based feel.

The races start and finish on the sports fields of Lymm High School and take in the best bits of Helsdale and Spud Wood. It’s the perfect backdrop for a summer’s morning of running events. There’s something for everyone.’’

The races kicked off with the Children’s Fun Run led by our Caped Crusader Superhero and included many children in fancy dress. Winners of Woodland Trust prizes for the best outfits, were Wilf Bradbury and Tilly Scammell.

This was followed by the 5k and 10K races through the woods and concluded with a medal, a great goody bag and some refreshing fruit.

Last year’s 10K winner, Daniel Cliffe of Liverpool Harriers returned this year to scoop prizes for both the 5K and 10K races and Alison Roberts of Lymm Runners and Sandra Stepniak (unattached) won the women’s prizes for the 5k and 10K respectively.

Lymm Runners would like to thank all the marshals and volunteers who worked so hard to make the day a success, the High School for allowing us to use their facilities and finally to the local companies and shops for their very generous sponsorship of fantastic refreshments, goodies for the bags and prizes. A full list can be found on our website.
