Rare Lancaster Bomber seen flying over Warrington

THE UK’s only flying Lancaster bomber was seen flying over Warrington earlier today (Sunday).

It was pictured flying over Walton Gardens by Latchford based photographer Darren Moston.

The iconic plane was easily identified by its nose art featuring a kangaroo and bagpipes.

It is part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire and is currently at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford.

It had been taking part in an air display at RAF Cosford in Shropshire earlier in the day.

The Lancaster, one of only two in the world permitted to fly, was previously grounded in 2015 after an engine fire.

But after nine months of restoration by the The Aircraft Restoration Company, it was was able to take to the air once again and is now a popular attraction at air displays around the country.

    Gutted I missed it flying over and I didn’t know there were only 2 of them left in the world that are now allowed to fly. Wow even more gutted I missed it now.
