VIDEO: Lymm and District Round Table declared their annual Lymm duck race a scorching success with huge crowds enjoying the wonderful Easter weather

This year’s Lymm duck race was blessed with glorious sunshine which added to the party atmosphere in the village. A huge crowd built steadily throughout the Bank Holiday morning and by the time of the start of the race the whole race route and the rest of the village was packed with spectators.

As well as the excitement of the duck race there were many other attractions to keep the locals amused including a giant slide, a crooked house, kiddies fairground rides and stalls provided by Chadwick’s Family Fun Fair. A food village area kept people fed and watered and the local pubs and restaurants also provided wonderful hospitality.

As a result of the recent dry spell there was a slow current on the brook so the ducks were slower than last year but some encouragement from volunteer canoeists Chris and James helped them along the brook towards the crowded finishing line.

As well as being a great community fun day the race also helps raise vital funds for local causes and this year over £8000 was raised on the day which Lymm and District Round Table will put to good use as always.

Speaking for the Round Table, Chairman Euan MacDonald said ” Lymm Duck Race is a lot of hard work for the team that puts it together, but it is always great fun to see the village full of happy people cheering the ducks to the finish line. We always look forward to a celebratory pint afterwards and finding out how much we’ve raised for some great causes. Hopefully 2019 can beat all previous records again.”

The winning duck was number 696 with 917 coming second and 221 claiming third.

Corporate duck winner was Orb Jewellery and Super Duck Winner was Grill on the Cross.

Warrington Worldwide took to the water in a canoe expertly captained by Round Tabler, Ed Gough, to capture photos and a live video which can be viewed below.
