WARRINGTON’S not-for-profit leisure organisation LiveWire has been nominated for a prestigious national award for the redevelopment of Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub.
LiveWire is a finalist in the capital investment category of the Community Leisure UK Awards – which showcase the impact of public leisure and cultural services across the country.
Winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony next month.
The state-of-the-art community facility off Lingley Green Drive opened its doors in February last year after an extensive refurbishment, which included redesigning the building to meet leading dementia-friendly standards throughout, creating a safe and welcoming environment for people living with the condition, and their carers.
The facility’s dementia-friendly features include natural and artificial lighting, signage and floor finishes, accessible toilets and a “quiet room” as well as a dementia friendly exercise class, a “quiet” hour in the gym and designated swim sessions for people living with dementia and their carers.
In addition, as well as an integrated library, the Hub has a 3G Artificial-Grass-Pitch, four external tennis courts, conferencing facilities, three group fitness spaces, including a group cycling studio, a 120-station fitness suite kitted out with the latest hi-tech equipment and a functional training space.
February saw the opening of the Garden Spa, the site’s new health and wellness spa which will provide quality treatments, including specialist options for cancer patients, alongside a luxury thermal experience.
The refurbished swimming pools opened this month with health facilities and catering offer still to come.
Managing director Emma Hutchinson said: “LiveWire is absolutely delighted that Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub has been nominated for this prestigious award. There has been a huge amount of hard work that has gone into this project from across the organisation over a four year period and we are very proud with the end result.
“The West of Warrington now has a wonderful neighbourhood hub providing the highest quality leisure, library and lifestyles services within a facility that has been carefully designed to be a friendly and comfortable environment for the whole community, including those with dementia. It is fantastic that the facility is getting recognition nationally through awards such as this”
This year’s Community Leisure UK Awards will be announced at The Lowry, Salford Quays, on Wednesday May 22.
