Eddie Stobart to host public exhibition on National Distribution Centre plans

EDDIE Stobart has announced they will be holding a public exhibition over proposals for a new National Distribution Centre on Green Belt land north of Barleycastle Lane, Appleton Thorn, Warrington.

A planning application for the National Distribution Centre was previously recommended for approval by Warrington Council’s planning officers last year but turned down by councillors as being premature ahead of the proposed Local Development Plan.

An Eddie Stobart spokesperson said: “Several observations were made about the previous application. We have taken account of these and spent considerable time looking again at the scheme. We are now confident that the application will fully detail the advantages to Warrington and the significant very special circumstances to support the development. We therefore propose to resubmit the application to the council.”

This proposal represents a commitment from Eddie Stobart to grow its base in Warrington, creating over 700 jobs in the local economy and generating a £6m investment to improve local roads and transport.

Eddie Stobart is writing to over 800 local homes and businesses to ensure everyone who might be affected has the chance to meet the project team, see the plans, find out more and have their say.

The exhibition will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 4pm-7pm in the main reception area, Eddie Stobart, Stretton Green Distribution Park, Langford Way, Appleton Thorn, Warrington, WA4 4TQ.

Local councillors who opposed the previous application, which Eddie Stobart are also appealing against, have previously criticised the company for lack of consultation.

They also say any benefits from the proposal do not justify the loss of Green Belt land and also raised concerns over the impact on local roads, which are already over congested as well as litter problems in the area.
