Takeaway shop plan causes an uproar

A PLAN to convert a former butcher’s shop at Orford, Warrington into a hot food takeaway has caused a storm of protest from nearby residents.
The scheme in Poplars Avenue comes before the borough council’s development management committee this Wednesday
Eleven residents and local councillor John Kerr-Brown have lodged objections.
The objectors say there are already too many takeaway food shops in the area and an additional one will cause smells, late night noise and disturbance, litter, increased traffic and people loitering in the area.
Cllr Kerr-Brown points out that the council has a healthy eating strategy and that planning should take account of this in reaching a decision.
Planning officers acknowledge that takeaways provide a popular service for local communities but that too many can have a detrimental impact on the overall vitality of a local centre.
However they believe there is a variety of shops in the area and that changing the use of the shop to a takeaway could increase the vitality of the area. They are recommending the scheme be approved.

  1. I think its a great idea for a evening pizza palour. I live on the next street and i welcome any new business. Better to be a pizza palour than a empty unit.
