A new fleet of eco-friendly waste collection vehicles is hitting the streets of Warrington following £4 million investment by the borough council.
Warrington Borough Council has invested around £4million of capital funding in 24 new waste collection vehicles to replace most of the current fleet.
The new, sparkling white fleet will collect general household rubbish, recycling and green waste from around 94,000 properties and 560 trade clients across the borough.
The hi-tech vehicles provide improved safety for the driver, crew and members of the public. Each vehicle features low entry cabs, 360 degree CCTV cameras, LED and audible warning system for cyclists and an in-cab screen for drivers to monitor any potential hazards in the blind spot.
The initial wave of six Dennis Eagle vehicles, of the Council’s fully owned fleet arrived in December 2018, with the rest to follow, in groups of six, until the entire fleet is in operation by April 2020.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, executive board member for environment and public protection, said: “This is a significant investment in front line services, demonstrating the Council’s ambition to hit key recycling targets which will make Warrington a cleaner and greener borough.
“Having a brand new, fit-for-purpose fleet that is fuel efficient, safer, and more economically friendly will mean our waste collection teams can hit the streets, confident that they will be able to provide residents with a reliable, consistent service.”
Three of the current vehicles will be retained, meaning the Council will have a 32 strong fleet in total to ensure capacity to meet service and back-up requirements.

I know it may seem a bit of an odd question but will the new fleet be labelled as to what they carry?
If not then green waste, could be mixed with recyclable if the same vehicle is used for both.
Great that the council are investing in greener vehicles but £4million for 24 vehicles. That’s over £166k for each one.. OUCH.
I presume these greener vehicles will be cheaper to run though which is good…and presumably the council will receive some money in return for trading in or selling their current vehicles,,,,which is good.
And presumably now they are using greener vehicles and saving money and getting sonething in return for the older vehicles our council tax will come down…NOPE IT’S GOING UP AGAIN.
Ahh well not to worry though eh as we have no choice and have to pay it so no point in me whinging as it wont change anything lol.
