Historic Green Belt house to be demolished

PLANNING chiefs have approved proposals to demolish a historic house on Green Belt land at Lymm and build two new houses within its grounds.
Field House stands well back from the A56 Higher Lane between Lymm and Broomedge and is, according to the Cheshire Archaeology Planning Advisory Service, of historical value with archaeological significance on a local level.
Lymm Parish Council had objected to the scheme, which also includes demolition of an adjoining barn which was converted for residential use some years ago, because the site is in the Green Belt.
But the borough’s development management committee was told the footprint of the two new houses would be less than that of the existing properties. They would be built considerably closer to the A56 than the existing properties.
Members approved the proposals subject to a condition that the existing properties be demolished and the site be returned to Green Belt.
A full archaeological record of the original site should also be carried out before the demolition took place.
