THE Conservatives have gained a seat on Stockton Heath Parish Council following yesterday’s by-election.
Former councillor Stephen Taylor polled 278 votes to win the contest and regain his place on the council.
Labour’s Lindsey Harrison came second with 217 votes and the Green Party’s Lyndsay McAteer came third with 96.
The by-election was caused by the resignation of Liberal Democrat Wendy Emsley, on health grounds.
But the Liberal Democrats decided not to contest the seat because there will be another election in 18 months’ time and the cost of the by-election would be nearly £7,000.
Chairman of Warrington Conservatives Paul Campbell said: “We are delighted at Stephen’s re-election to Stockton Heath Parish Council.
“As a lifelong resident, he has a true grasp on the issues that affect Stockton Heath and the wider community. “

Congratulations to my former colleague Stephen. Great pity that there had to be an election given the previously reported cost, also tend to think that at least at a Parish level, there should be no party politics, just all Independents.
Wholeheartedly agree with you on the unacceptable intrusion of party politics at Parish level. I would go a step further and say it should be banished at Local Authority level too, if that were to happen life would a lot better for all of us.
