Warrington is Blooming as Business Improvement District takes root

YOUNG gardeners have set about transforming Warrington town centre into a blaze of floral colour as a Warrington in Bloom project helped launch the Warrington Business Improvement District (BID).

Over the next two weeks children from Day Nursery Kids Planet along with Cubs from Orford and Padgate packs, young people from the Princes Trust supported by volunteers from Warrington based DATS Holdings will be hard at work filling planters, tubs and baskets in Queens Gardens, at Market Gate, on Horsemarket Street and Buttermarket Street.

The Warrington in Bloom Project was funded through funds raised from Tesco’s Bags of Help Community Grant Scheme which was announced earlier this year. The grant was secured by Warrington Borough Council and the Warrington Business Improvement District. Run in partnership with environmental charity Groundwork the project was funded by sales of the 5p carrier bags

Kids Planet Day Nursery organised the application and planting project in conjunction with the Warrington Bid Team, Groundwork and Warrington Borough Council.

It is hoped that the Warrington in Bloom project will enhance and improve the area and add to the vibrancy and visual appeal of the town centre. Bird feeders will also be installed in the area at a future date to attract wildlife.

Dawn Smyth, chairman of the Warrington BID team and store manager of Primark in Golden Square shopping centre, said: “We were thrilled to have secured this funding for the Warrington in Bloom project. The planting was great fun, the children really enjoyed it and we think will make a great visual impact in the town centre.”

This is just the start for Warrington BID which formally starts on 1 August. The BID team is gearing up to begin formal operations in the town centre which will deliver new and exciting plans and initiatives over a five year period resulting in £1.8million added value.
