Warburton toll bridge to close while temporary toll booth installed

WARBURTON Toll Bridge will close next Monday evening (June 18) while work is carried out to replace the payment kiosk damaged during an arson attack.

The closure will take place at 8pm on Monday for one hour. The rest of the work will be carried out off peak using two way lights.

These will be in place for two hours, starting at 09:30am and finishing at 11:30am on Tuesday, June 19. This is to enable primary electrical connections to be made to the cabin.

The barriers will be installed on Wednesday, June 20 – but no traffic lights are needed for the barrier install though.

The temporary road closure is costing the Manchester Ship Canal Company £1,800 and states it is for the installation of ” temporary toll booth.”

The original payment kiosk was destroyed following an arson attack during the early hours of May 10.

Local residents have been campaigning for the toll to be removed due to traffic chaos in the local area each time there is an incident on the nearby motorway network.

  1. There is chaos every day at peak time no matter what the problem is on other roads. There are rarely 2 people collecting and that is unforgivable. It takes up to an hour to get through causing fumes for improved asthma and wasted fuel and gives stress. The environmental agency should be keen to act but are not interested. The act to do with the bridge should be rePEELed..
