A MAJOR plan to demolish a disused roller skating rink at Warrington and replace it with an apartment block providing 144 dwellings is to be put to planning chiefs.
The building – formerly a supermarket in Academy Street – would make way for a mix of one and two-bed apartments, together with ancillary accommodation and car parking.
Part of the ground floor would be used for retailing.
Two letters of objection have been received claiming the appearance of the building would be mediocre, with no architectural merit, that it would be incongruous in its surroundings and would have a detrimental impact on an area of architectural and historic interest.
All the flats would be for rent – but there is no provision for affordable homes.
Officers say the building would be acceptable in the area and are recommending the scheme be approved.

Bimey that looks huge. Are they sure it will all fit on that plot of land?
My opinion is that it’s way too tall and big but then again when you look over the road at the new Time Square development with the huge cinema building that’s already going up and with the new car park height that’s already up then I guess this developments of flats may not look so out of place when all the others are completed too. I can’t see why anyone would want to live in a box flat there though but each to their own I suppose and I’m sure someone will rent them.
Who in their right mind would want to live in that polluted spot? breeding ground for Asthma, COPD & Lung Cancer!
