AN illegal encampment of travellers have ignored a council notice to quit land at Hardwick Grange, Woolston, as another group left a trail of discarded tyres and rubbish at Silver lane, Risley.
The encampment of five caravans and associated vehicles at Hardwick Grange received a visit from the council’s gypsy and traveller welfare support officers and served a section S. 77 Notice to vacate the site.
But they have ignored the notice and the issue has now been handed to the council’s Legal team who will in turn approach the Courts for a hearing date to apply for a. S. 78 Order to evict them.
It is the latest in a number of ongoing issues with travellers who have set up on various sites in recent weeks, including Woolston Hub car park, Silver Lane, Risley and the M&S car park at Gemini.
Meanwhile the group who accessed Silver Lane by cutting the padlock off a barrier have left a trail of discarded tyres and rubbish much to the annoyance of local residents and dog walkers.
The five caravans at Hardwick Grange are a different group.

Call me old fashioned but, this used to be a crime at one time. When did the law change?
Waiting for a hearing date? If it had been anyone but a traveller, the vehicles would have been towed away. What is so special about these regular offenders?
If it had been anyone from the borough they would have been in court in a trice and the media report would have included a statement from a councillor to the effect that “anyone who dumps unwanted tyres in Warrington will think again after the fines levied in this instance.”
The annoying thing for me is the fact that much of the rubbish left by these people is waste that residents in this town have paid for to be removed by them. Such a large quantity of tyres has probably come from a business. When will people learn that unlicensed rubbish removals nearly always end up fly tipped. The only difference being that the travelling community are much more blatant about it.
