New restaurant and bar granted planning approval

DISUSED council offices in Warrington town centre are set to be converted into a restaurant and bar after winning planning approval.
The buildings in Cairo Street, close to the Grade 2 listed Cairo Street Unitarian Chapel, will be completely restored and, in their new use, will add to the attractiveness of the area, planners believe.
Planning chiefs approved the scheme, subject to conditions to protect nearby residential properties from noise, smells and anti-social behaviour.
One nearby resident objected – but planning officers said issues of noise and anti-social behaviour could be dealt with by imposing conditions.
The new restaurant will include an outdoor eating area –which officers say will contribute to a relaxed and sociable style of eating and drinking indicative of a modern, cosmopolitan society.

  1. Its good to see that these lovely old buildings will be given a new lease of life. The cultural quarter in town is really becoming a lovely place and hopefully this will help link it physically to Bridge Street. A lot of course will depend on what replaces the cabinet works .

  2. I’m glad it’s been approved and that the old building will hopefully be brought back to life rather than being left to rot and some day being demolished just like the fate of the Cabinet Works. Shame on PTS for that when they owned it but hey at least they have decided to do something with this one before it’s too late.
Maybe the council’s generous money from the buy out of the Cabinet Works from PTS have given them the funds to take this small development on eh 😉
Just one little gripe…the actual planning application and other news pages references etc keep referring to it as the ‘old council offices’ though….never a mention of it’s real age and history and wasn’t it originally the old Industrial School started in the early 1800’s by Rev Philip Pearsall Carpenter who was a very renowned and important man back in the day ?
