VIDEO: NO libraries in Warrington will close if the borough council’s Executive Board follow the recommendations of Chief Executive Professor Steven Broomhead.

During an exclusive interview with warrington-worldwide Professor Broomhead, who was discussing various issues across the town, said he was making a series of recommendations revolving around libraries to the Executive Board meeting on Monday December 11 – including no library closures.

Professor Broomhead, who has been chairing a special Libraries Working Group, said: “I will be making a series of recommendations, including that no libraries should be closed and there should be further investment in libraries.

“It will be down to the politicians to accept those recommendations.”

Professor Broomhead said he hoped that by working in partnerships, libraries would have a sustainable business model to help secure their futures.

He added that since he had become involved as part of the working group it had been “really good to witness the energy and passion for libraries.” It had been a “positve experience.”

Over the past eight months, members of the group, officers from Warrington Borough Council and LiveWire and individual working groups, have been working together to explore a range of options to sustain, promote and develop library provision within communities.

Meanwhile other topics included during the video  interview included the Local Plan, Preferred Development Option, the controversial Western Link Red Route and the Borough Council’s relationship with Peel Ports.

Professor Broomhead also talks about the positives of the Omega Development and the ongoing Time Square Development which will help regenerate the town centre.
