Man to appear in court after alleged armed robbery at shop

A MAN is to appear in court today following an alleged armed robbery at Longford, Warrington when a shopkeeper was threatened with a knife.

The incident was on Friday, September 22, at Noone’s News, in Longford Street when a man entered the shop, armed with a knife and demanded money from the till. He then produced a car wheel brace and began taking money from the till before assaulting the shop keeper, and then running off.

Later, after a report of the incident appeared on Warrington-Worldwide.co.uk and was shared on social media, a man went to Warrington Police station and handed himself in. He was immediately arrested.

Michael Edwards,  36, of Winifred Street, Warrington,  has  been charged with robbery and will appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court today

  1. A good clear CCTV image which makes a change but why, yet again, has it taken so long (12 days) for a still from the CCTV footage to be released? It takes minutes to copy footage or retrieve a still photo from CCTV.
    Surely if the police/press put the mug shots up as soon as incidents like this happened there would be a better chance of people remembering seeing the person or something that may help in the enquiries leading to arrest and prosecution.
