Villagers’ barn dance displayed “togetherness”

VILLAGERS at Croft and from elsewhere in the area enjoyed a evening “Gingham style” when a barn dance was held at Croft Village Memorial Hall.
There was live music from band Maplewood, led by caller Graham Smith, dancing to rival anything on TV and delicious refreshments.
Chairman of the hall committee Peter McCartney said: “We really wanted to provide a lovely, inclusive community event. I was minded that our event was being held on the same night as the Manchester Arena re-opened, and the same sense of togetherness evident in Manchester was reflected in a small way at our own event too.
“We were also raising funds to help maintain our building  and so investing in our sustainability as a community resource. That said, holding the event itself was the biggest positive – otherwise that sense of community that we all strive for is just a nice thought, rather than reality.”
The committee is now planning a “Twilight Market” for late November
