WARRINGTON Police are urging witnesses to come forward after an acid attack on a man in Lymm earlier today (Monday).
The incident took place shortly after 9.20am and involved a 37-year-old man who was stood by his vehicle as he worked at an address on Grammar School Road, Lymm when he was approached by another man. As the victim turned around the suspect then threw a corrosive substance in the direction of his face.
The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Warrington Hospital with injuries to his face, hands and arms. He has since been discharged.
The suspect is described as being in his 30âs, of Eastern European origin, around 5ft 8 tall of average build and wearing a grey hooded top. He then got in the passenger side of a white transit van and they car drove off in the direction of the A56.
The same man and vehicle is believed to have been in the Lymm area on Friday, 4 August at around 3.30pm. It is believed the offender may have been in the area looking for scrap metal.
Detective Sergeant Mark Naylor, of Warrington CID, said: âI want to reassure the local community that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no direct threat to the public.
âOur enquiries are in the early stages and I would urge anyone who may have seen a white van, witnessed what happened or may have seen a man matching this description either on Friday afternoon or this morning to come forward with any information.

That’s awful and I hope the gent is going to be ok and wont have any lasting injury or scars. It’s frightening that people will do something like this to another person. Pure evil !!
With national news currently (and constantly) telling us what do do if we, or anyone else, is attacked by acid I’m afraid that the Police’s response to this local incident of ‘…..we believe this to be an isolated incident with no direct threat to the public’ but then followed by ‘ …our enquiries are in the early stages…’ does not help alleviate my worries.
A TV news report lunchtime today said that bystanders should ensure that a victim has clean (but not cold) water poured over them/the affected are constantly until emergency services help arrives as early action can make all the difference. They suggested running to any shop/home/business to get clean water ….BUT they also said between 40 & 60 litres of water is needed for it to have any benefit in the early stages to stop serious damage….crikey what if you are not near anywhere where you can easily get water to douse yourself or the person before help arrives đ
