VIDEO: LARGE crowds turned out at Warrington Cenotaph under grey skies for the annual Remembrance Service Parade to pay their respects to those who lost their lives in various conflicts around the world.

The service was led by Lt Col. Les Taylor-Duff TD with music from the Salvation Army Band.

At one minute to eleven the last post was sounded followed by two minutes silence as those gathered remembered all those who have sacrificed their lives.

Prayers and readings were led by The Rev. Terry Dolan, Deacon and the Mayor Geoff Settle’s faith adviser Rev. Stephen Kingsnorth, among others and the final prayer was given by the Rector of Warrington Rev. Paul Wilson.

The Mayor laid the first wreath, followed by local dignitaries including the town’s two MPs Helen Jones and David Mowat WBC Chief Executive Steven Broomhead, DL Norman Banner and representatives of the armed forces and other local groups.

Other services took place across the town as various communities remembered.

At Culcheth Councillor Chris Vobe read the poem “Taking a Stand” by John Bailey during the service. Mr Bailey was a former regular and now serving Territorial Army soldier who served in Afghanistan in 2008. He wrote the poem in memory of five members of his unit, who were killed by a rogue Afghan policeman.
