WARRINGTON’S new GP-led health commissioning organisation is celebrating after scooping a top national award.
The Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) was named Commissioning Organisation of the Year at the Health Service Journal (HSJ)awards.
Presented at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London, the award recognises the organisation’s work and commitment to improve the health of the local population.
In the 18 months since it was formed, Warrington CCG has established itself within the community, built strong partnerships, developed a whole system approach to commissioning, carried out a systematic review of services and delivered successful reform programmes.
Made up of 27 GP practices, the CCG commissions healthcare services for a population of 208,000.
Now in their 31st year, the HSJ Awards aim to recognise and reward individuals and teams that raise the standard of healthcare in the UK.
CCG chairman Dr Andy Davies said: “I’m so proud to have won this prestigious award. It is fantastic recognition for all the hard work so far, demonstrates how effective our strong partnership working is and, most importantly, shows that we are succeeding in our vision of achieving excellence for Warrington.”
It is the organisation’s second accolade in three weeks, after winning the Most Advanced CCG 2012 award at the National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) Vision Awards.
Dr Davies added: “While it’s understandable that we’re all elated about our recent achievements, I believe there is always room for improvement and am confident that we will not become complacent and will continue to go from strength to strength as the organisation moves towards final authorisation next year.”

As it seems to be harder than it’s ever been to even get an appointment with a doctor I’d be interested to know exactly what “reform programmes” have been “successful”.

“Warrington Health Services wins a National Award”: I don’t believe it ? What nonsense is this. The P.C.T. is mega millions in debt; you can’t get an appointment at the Doctors; the Hospital is overcrowded; you can’t park, and with people going to “waste of time ” duplicate appointments with no treatment resulting. This is a joke.
