Dancing George is a perfect role model

WARRINGTON dancing sensation George Sampson has been hailed as a perfect role model for youngsters.
George, who won Saturday’s live final of Britain’s Got Talent, earning him a performance at the Royal Variety Show and £100,000, returned to Birchwood High School for a special assembly and a GCSE music exam!
Head teacher Anne Bright believes he is a shining example for youngsters in the town and right across the country.
She said: “What can you say? He has got so much determination, commitment and talent. He’s a star!
“I think it is important for Warrington that not all young people are portrayed in the same way. He is a perfect role model for youngsters and there has been huge delight at Birchwood High School and in the town since he won.”
George has vowed to stay in Warrington with his family and friends despite finding national fame, and intends to make sure his mum’s mortgage is all paid off with his winnings.
He said: “Winning means a lot to me. It has taken a huge weight off my shoulders in terms of family problems. It won’t change me as a person, but it will definitely change my life style. I’m going to pay off my mum’s mortgage, give some to charity then treat myself and the team to Los Angeles. I will be staying in Warrington though and coming back to Birchwood High School.” After a whirlwind week, culminating in Saturday night’s stunning grand final performance, George will be back on stage again this week, as he embarks on the Britain’s Got Talent live tour.
Head of George’s year at Birchwood, John Burnham, isn’t surprised by George’s success.
He said: “He is a very driven young man who has a natural talent and loves dancing, but he is also a good friend who encourages others with talent to show it. He has won the Birchwood’s Got Talent show in the past, but also helped others to get up and show their talents. You only had to look when Andrew Johnston came third and broke down crying. George did the right thing and gave him a hug.”
George added: “I’ve done competitions before and won them, and maybe got £5 or £10 for it, but £1000,000, that’s unbelievable! I thought I was dreaming the next day. I asked my mum if it was true and we watched the replay of the show together. She didn’t stop crying for a day. Mum is my biggest critic though, she said I could have done things better in the final!”
George will face the ultimate showcase at the Royal Variety Show in December in front of Prince Charles, which he is already making preparations for.
He was also quick to dispel rumours of a spine problem that threatened to cut short his dancing career.
He said: “I have got a curvature of the spine, but it’s not a problem and doesn’t stop me dancing – nothing will stop me dancing. I’ve been dancing since I was six so it’s coming up to nine years now.”
