Common sense not politics!

THE elections have been and gone and we have a new coalition Government nationally with the Tories and Lib Dems in power, while locally Labour made some surprise gains, making them the largest political party at the town hall.

Use your vote wisely!

YOU may have noticed elections are looming - both nationally and locally.

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

IS there light at the end of the tunnel?  Does a recent appeal decision offer some hope for those who would like to see Warrington town centre radically changed to become more family friendly?

Spending plans make gloomy reading

WARRINGTON Borough Council's spending plans for the period up to 2013 make gloomy reading. After years of cutbacks we are to expect more cutbacks. One wonders how long it can go on.

Has town been harshly judged?

THE 83 per cent of Warrington people who, as part of a survey,  recently said they were happy living in the borough, could be forgiven for wondering perhaps they were too easy to please.

I was honoured to be a guest at the Cheshire Police Northern Awards evening held in Warrington when veteran comedian Ken Dodd was on hand to present various commendations to deserving officers and members of the public.

An outrageous injustice

WE have made no secret in the past that we do not believe the green fields of Daresbury to be a suitable site for a major pop festival.

Time to pull together!

I am sure many local business people are feeling the pinch in the tough economic climate which is not going to get any easier with the traditionally quiet school holidays upon us and the swine flu pandemic which is going to get worse before it gets better.

Troubled times ahead?

I fear troubled times ahead at Warrington Borough Council in the wake of the ongoing restructuring process which has seen a number of senior officers departing and many staff still fearing for their futures regarding job security and pay.

Time to preserve our heritage

THE fact that the fate of one of Warrington's most historic buildings still hangs in the balance is almost criminal.
