A FORMER Lymm High School pupil has won a national songwriting award, sponsored by the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
Ben Whelan, (pictured) now in his final year at Leeds Metropolitan University, studying music production, was one of six finalists invited to perform the two songs he submitted at a special event in London.
He was awarded second prize by the panel of judges made up from key members of the UK music industry, including guitarist Ally McErlaine, a founding member of the band Texas, and film music composer David Arnold.
