THOUSANDS of people flocked to the

annual Disability Awareness Day at Walton Hall and Gardens, Warrington,

which proved a huge success, with plans already in the pipeline for next

year’s 20th anniversary event!
Glorious sunshine greeted visitors as more than 300 exhibitors were on hand to help promote independent living.
Many local organisations also used the opportunity to display their work in the local community.
Members of the Kent Scuba diving team created another first for DAD as they demonstrated how disabled people can enjoy the benefits of scuba diving.
The event is sposnored by the North West Development Agency, various NHS organisations and Warrington Borough Council, to name but a few.
Founder and co-ordinator dave Thompson, Chairman of Warrington Disability Partnership who help organise the huge event, said plans were already in the pipeline for next year’s event, which would be the 20th anniversary.
“We have come a long way since I first visited Walton Gardens with my son Gavin and marked out a few spaces with some white paint.
“Two thousand people attended the first event and it has now developed into the largest voluntary led disability event of its kind in Europe.”
Cheshire’s Lord Lt. David Briggs was on hand to present special awards and certificates to sponsors and supporters, which include warrington-worldwide.
