WARRINGTON Wolves boss Tony Smith has agreed a two year extension to his contract at the club until November 2013.
Commenting on his decision to commit his future to the club Smith said today: “The club is going in the right direction and I want to be part of it.”
Five players have also shown their commitment to the club by signing contract extensions. Simon Grix, Mickey Higham and Rhys Williams have agreed two-year extensions keeping them at the club until November 2012 with Paul Wood and Lee Briers agreeing further one-year contracts until 2011.
Smith says that since the Carnegie Challenge Cup victory last year the club has gone from strength to strength showing continued commitment to the coaching/performance team including the state of the art training facilities at the University of Chester Padgate campus.
He added: “I am over the moon and delighted to be extending my contract. I’ve not been known as an individual for long-term contracts, however, I’m very much enjoying working with this group of players who continue to have a great desire to improve. I am really enjoying being part of an ambitious club with ambitious people and I am very much looking forward to continuing the good work and a successful future with Warrington Wolves.”
Wolves Chief Executive Andy Gatcliffe commented: “The long-term stability of the playing squad, including the up and coming young players, yet again clearly demonstrates this club’s desire to strengthen and continually invest in future quality which it is believed will deliver success.”
Chairman Steven Broomhead concluded: “We believe Tony Smith to be one of the finest rugby coaches in the world and it is great news he has agreed to commit his future to the Warrington Wolves.”

  1. Great news for the club – Tony Smith has installed a new culture at the club and we are already seeing the benfits.

    Long may his reign continue.
