WARRINGTON Town made it three league wins in a row with a 1-0 victory at near neighbours Trafford.
A Phil Hadland strike (pictured above) midway through the second half was enough to claim all three points as Town continued their climb away from the foot of the table.
Town had the best of the chances in the first half and Jimmy McCarthy should have opened the scoring in the 5th minute when he sliced his shot wide with the goal at his mercy.
Chris Gaghan also hit the post with a crafty free kick which fooled the keeper.
Trafford’s best chance came just before the break when Town’s keeper Richie Mottram did well to block what looked a certain goal.
Warrington dominated much of the second half playing some good football and were rewarded in the 68th minute when Hadland found himself through one on one with the keeper, calmly slotting the ball home.
Super sub Franny Smith had a chance to make the game safe but blasted over the bar and after surviving a bit of late pressure from the home side Town hung on for a well deserved victory which took them up to 17th in the table and well clear of the relegation zone.
Town manager Joey Dunn was delighted with the result.
“We controlled the ball well and played some nice football. Things are starting to gell now and we just need to start taking our chances.”
Town have a chance to continue their good form when they entertain Garforth at Cantilever Park next Saturday, kick off 3pm.
Meanwhile striker Richard Chetcuti (pictured right) will be playing for Malta’s Under 21’s on Wednesday.
