A “PATIENT’S Champion” has been appointed for Warrington – to promote the values, principles, rights and pledges within the NHS Constitution.
The constitution, launched in January last year, is the first of its kind in the world, and brings together in one place what staff, patients and the public can expect from the NHS and what the NHS expect of them.
NHS Warrington has appointed their public and stakeholder engagement officer, Paul Steele, as their new constitution champion.
His role is to ensure patients, their representatives, carers and the public are aware of their rights, responsibilities, and what services are available to provide support and advise.
Mr Steele said: “Being the local champion for the NHS constitution means I can answer any questions the public and staff may have about the constitution and what it means for people in Warrington.
“The NHS constitution is aimed at making the NHS work more effectively and empower people to both understand their health and how to stay healthy and fit.
“I talk to lots of different groups of people in my job and as part of my role with the public I will be talking to people about the constitution and what it aims to deliver.”

……..I wonder if this Paul Steele chap is on the same money as an A&E nurse? Considerably more I don’t doubt!! Talk about the creation of non-jobs….. another prime example of waste that the Tories could get rid of!!
Just to clarify, Paul is our Public and Stakeholder Engagement Officer and has taken on the additional role of NHS Constitution Champion on top of his original duties. His role is to make sure we engage with and listen to our communities, including those which are hard to reach, and his additional role as NHS Constitution Champion aims to help local people understand the Constitution and the rights and responsibilities contained within it.
Please explain in plain English exactly what non-job a “Public and Stakeholder Engagement Officer ” actually does and as for the last part of the last sentence; well that is just nonsense. The public are allowed some level of free healthcare when they get ill (subject to budget limitations of course) and it is the publics responsibilty to keep themselves as well as they can so as to avoid the need of healthcare. There you go; just for the hard to reach and hard of understanding. Now please explain to me why you still allow smoking on the hospital premises and allow nurses etc. to smoke on the footpath opposite the garage on Lovely Lane…. not really a good advert is it? Maybe the Public and Stakeholder Engagement Officer should have a word?
If he has taken the job “on top” of his original duties that means there is very little extra responsibility or that he was sadly underworked previously.
Hang on I have just read through again, he is only going to talk about the constitution, just what you need when you are ill.
