A Cabinet Minister’s plea for Liberal Democrats to work with Labour to avoid a Tory government has been firmly rejected in Warrington.
The idea of a Lib-Lab electoral pact, proposed by Transport Secretary Lord Adonis, was dismissed out of hand by Jo Crotty, (pictured right) the Liberal Democrat candidate in Warrington South.
“Our sights are set on beating Labour not on doing deals with them,” she said.
“Labour has had 13 years in which to transform Britain’s prospects yet we have ended up with a bust economy, an unfair tax system, and a political system that commands no respect.”
The Liberal Democrats have named Warrington South as one of their top target seats in the North West, and are urging party supporters from across the region to concentrate their efforts in the constituency.
“The parliamentary seat is held by Labour but the great majority of councillors in the constituency are Liberal Democrats. We have the bonus here of credibility that comes from people knowing that when they vote Liberal Democrat they usually get Liberal Democrats elected.”
