Jobs boost for town

AS job figures for Warrington made a slight recovery last month a new job club in the town is proving to be a great success, helping find work for 80 per cent of those who have completed a course.
Job figures for Warrington made a slight recovery in February 2010 as the percentage of the resident working age population claiming dole dropped from 4.1 per cent to 4 per cent.
The number of people claiming job seekers allowance in Warrington had dropped to 4,598 last December (3.8 per cent) but went up in January to 4,957 (4.1 per cent) the highest it had been since September 2009.
The number of job hunters had been dropping month on month since peaking at 4.2 per cent in August last year. Seasonal work in December which ended in the New Year could have caused the January rise.
Now Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Warrington South, David Mowat, is encouraging Warrington residents to help themselves back into work by joining his ‘job club’.
It offers lectures and activities free of charge to help members develop job hunting skills. Spaces are available for the next course, which starts on May 22.
The club, which is not political, is based at the Conservative Offices on Stafford Road. Fifteen Warrington residents have already completed the course and 11 of them have now found jobs.
David Mowat presented completion certificates to those who have obtained the diploma and congratulated those who are back in work.
Job club member, Sheila Murphy, from Orford, said: “It has been a privilege to have met truly wonderful people, who not only gave up their precious time to attend, but provided support and hopefully their continued encouragement as we all face the same road…..”
