Defensive frailties cost Town

WARRINGTON Town’s defensive frailties were cruelly exposed as they suffered a 5-3 defeat at Garforth.
In a scrappy first half Town’s prolific goal scorer Chris Gaghan thought he had broken the deadlock but had his effort rulled out for an earlier infringement in the build up.
Then to rub salt in the wounds the hosts took the lead on the half hour through Tom Greaves as Warrington struggled to get into the game.
After the break Warrington came out all guns blazing and were soon on level terms as a through ball from Mike Duffy put Tony Evans into the clear. The striker beat the keeper only to see his shot hit the post and rebound into the path of Gaghan who doesn’t miss from six yards to level the scores on 49 minutes.
Three minutes later Warrington took the lead when Gavin Salmon slotted the ball home.
But Warrington failed to kick on allowing Dominic Blair to rifle home on 58 minutes to level the scores.
Garforth found a second wind and a second half hat-trick from Paul Walker on 66, 69 and 87 minutes sealed the victory.
A tap on from Tony Evans in the 90th minute was little consolation for Town who slipped down to 10th in the table.
Manager Joey Dunn was bitterly disappointed with the defensive performance and will be looking for a big improvement when Town travel to Harrogate Railway on Monday evening, kick off 7.45pm.
