THE campaign to re-open the public toilets at Stockton Heath appears to have ended in failure.
Not only are the men's and women's toilets at the Forge shopping precinct to remain closed but the disabled toilets, which had remained in use, have now also been closed.
Chairman Coun Peter Walker told the parish council the borough council had decided the cost of re-opening the toilets was too high.
The door of the disabled toilet had broken and the borough had decided not to replace it.
A sign directing people to the toilets is also to be removed.
The parish council some time ago formed a working party to try to get replacement public toilets in the village. They won support from Appleton Parish Council. But their efforts were in vain.
Coun Stephen Taylor said: "We should have another meeting of the working party.
"Now that the building is useless, we should have it removed and put the land to some community use."
