Village turns back the clock

WORK has started on preparations for Culcheth’s annual Victorian Day – when the village turns back the clock to welcome the Festive Season.
Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, Culcheth Lions Club and Newton and district

Jubilee Rotary Club are working together to ensure this year’s event is better than ever.
Shopkeepers, the CPS Centre and other local businesses are backing the day.
This year there will extra Christmas lights in the trees, more street fairground attractions, including fairground rides at the Harrow pub, vintage organs and the usual brass band and choir.
Christmas fairs will be staged in Newchurch Parish Hall and at the Methodist Church and an art exhibition is planned for the Jackson Avenue Day Centre.
Santa will be there too to switch on the lights and, weather permitting, there will be a firework display.
A spokesman for the organising committee said: “What we’d like to have is for more people to dress up in Victorian fancy dress, decorate the shop windows and join in the fun.
“We also need some volunteer street entertainers who can juggle for example or be strolling musicians.
“We are open to suggestions. But this is a Charity fund-raising event, so we are not looking for professional entertainers who want a fee.
