Tough work out for Town!

WARRINGTON Town were given a tough pre-season work out as they were held 2-2 at Heswall from West Cheshire Division One.
Although three divisions lower than Town, the standard of West Cheshire football has been very high for many years now, and Heswall fresh from games against Tranmere Rovers and Accrington Stanley, were worthy opponents.
During the opening twenty minutes chances were limited bar a couple of long range efforts from either side. When a goal did come it was almost unexpected.
Heswall pushed forward but no danger was immediately apparent. A speculative cross was sent to the edge of the area and amid a couple of defenders the Heswall striker rose to head over Ritchie Mottram. The goal seemed to inspire Town who immediately set about redressing the balance. Barely five minutes passed before they drew level. The ball was worked to Mike Grogan on the edge of eth box. He twisted and turned the defence to make space for the shot, which he drove to the bottom left hand corner giving the Heswall keeper no chance.
The second half saw Town come out on top and after a spell of attacking play they took the lead with a crisp strike from Darren Kinsey.
The ball broke to him twenty yards out and his fierce drive went in off the underside of the bar. Heswall made an occasional chance but for the most part Town held them at bay and also threatened to add to their lead.
The equaliser came with around five minutes remaining. Town failed to clear the ball following a Heswall attack and it was driven home from ten yards.
Meanwhile Town, who now look forward to the visit of Bury on Saturday, kick off 1.00 p.m, have been boosted by the news that last season’s top scorer, Warrington born Chris Gaghan, has committed his future to the club despite an attractive offer from Witton Albion.

Pictures show Chris Gaghan who has committed his future to his home town club and goal scorer Mike Grogan.
