Traffic light trial at busy roundabout

2

PART-time traffic lights are to be introduced for a trial period at one of Warrington busiest roundabouts.
The lights are to be trialled at The Cockhedge roundabout, which has to cope with extremely high traffic flows with drivers suffering at time from considerable delays both on weekdays and at the weekend.
Particular difficulties are experienced with traffic travelling north on the A49 – Brick Street – which has to give way to a high traffic flow approaching from the A57 and also has to cope with traffic exiting the Cockhedge Shopping Centre car park.
Additionally during peak shopping periods queues are often a major problem on the A57 Midland Way approach to the junction in the area of Golden Square.
The new traffic signals are to be placed on the A49 Brick Street and A57 Midland Way arms of the junction for use at peak times.
They will work alongside the existing pelican crossing on Brick Street.
The traffic signals will be introduced for an initial trial period, with regular monitoring undertaken to check effectiveness and success.
Work has already started and is scheduled for completion in mid-August. It is being part funded by Golden Square Shopping Centre.

  1. They won’t until this bunch of idiots we have in the council start to realise that cars are a necessery evil that bring wealth and prosperity to a town. Clog up the roads with pointless traffic lights and you will drive people and investment away from the town altogether
