School's outstanding Ofsted rating

A WARRINGTON school achieved an “outstanding” rating when Ofsted inspectors called.
Inspectors said the progress pupils make at Birchwood High School was “outstanding,” as was the care, guidance and support provided. The school raises aspirations and enabled pupils to achieve highly.
The school was inspected in December.
Inspectors said that teaching was clearly focused to engaged and sustain childrens’ interest and attention, enabling them to progress well.
Leadership and management were also “outstanding.”
The headteacher was praised for setting a clear direction for the school and she was well supported by the senior leadership team.
There was praise too for the curriculum for its significant contribution to pupils’ progress and to preparing them well for the future. Social, moral, spiritual and cultural development was also deemed to be “outstanding” with pupils given excellent opportunities to express and discuss their opinions and feelings.
The range of extra-curricular activities was praised, and almost all pupils were seen to adopt healthy lifestyles taking advantage of the healthy food options and the range of sporting and exercise opportunities.
Inspectors found there was a positive partnership between pupils and staff in all aspects of school life. Parents and carers were kept fully informed about their children’s progress.
Links with the community were also found to be strong because of the regular activities and events throughout the week involving local residents. Governors were seen to provide good support and challenge to the work of the school.
Headteacher Anne Bright said: “We are absolutely delighted with this report as it reflects what we already know about the quality of education, achievement and progress in our school.
“Ofsted recognised community cohesion as a key strength at Birchwood Community High School and our outstanding grading reflects the hard work of staff, parents and governors, illustrating that, at our school, all partnerships work together positively to support our learners.”

  1. Congratulations Birchwood Community High School.

    I had the pleasure to attend the recent Presentation Evening celebrating the achievements of last year’s leavers and I was very impressed.

    The youngsters were an inspiration and a credit to Warrington.
