STUDENTS joined forces with council staff and residents to blitz litter around their college.
Youngsters from Warrington’s Priestley College, borough council staff and members of Latchford Residents’ Forum went out into the community to carry out a neighbourhood litter pick.
The aim was to make a concerted effort to clear local streets of any indiscriminately dropped litter.
Local bus stops, Menin Avenue, Wilderspool Causeway and Loushers Lane were all targeted by the team whose message was simple – “Don’t drop it, bin it!”.
The initiative formed part of a wider campaign to promote respect and demonstrate a responsibility towards the local community and the shared environment.
Fran Evans, head of student services at Priestley, said: “We are very much aware of our surroundings. The local area is a very nice to place to both live and work and we plan to keep it that way by taking part in such events as this.”
Peter Hunt from the residents’ forum added: “It is so good to see young people getting involved in a neighbourhood project like this and caring for their environment. Over the space of a few days I noticed that they were able to collect numerous bags of litter.”
