YOUNGSTERS aged between 13 and 15 in Warrington are being urged to find out more about the new diplomas – the new qualification designed to give pupils the skills, knowledge and understanding they will need for employment, college or university
High school pupils thinking about what to do next in terms of education and training could find a diploma the best option open to them.
Hundreds of young people have already seized the opportunity to find out more about them at a special road show event earlier this year with many wanting to take their interest further.
Here is what some of them said:
*”It was good and also it was fun which made it more interesting” –
Year 9 student from Sir Thomas Boteler High School.
*”The staff were really friendly and helpful, they answered all my questions and were always smiling. Thank you.” – Year 9 student from Bridgewater High.
The diplomas will appeal to students of all abilities and aspirations who will benefit from a course which helps them develop a range of practical and intellectual skills in a broad work-related context.
They give students a fully-rounded education including the functional skills in English, maths and ICT and the thinking and learning skills that are valued by employers and universities.
The diplomas cover a wide range of topics. The society health and development diploma was introduced in September and a further six diplomas in construction and the built environment, engineering, creative and media, hair and beauty, hospitality and business administration and finance are to be introduced next September.
Coun Sheila Woodyatt, the borough council’s executive member for children’s services, said: “It’s very commendable to see so many of our young people taking an active interest in their future. There is such a variety of different qualifications and courses available that everyone’s interests and aspirations can be nurtured and developed so that our young people have every opportunity to reach their full potential.”
More information about the diplomas is available from Warrington’s 14-19 Partnership Team, on 01925 443159 or email [email protected]
